Volunteers are the lifeblood of Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife
Refuge. If you have some time that you can give, please consider
volunteering. We'll provide the training--you provide the enthusiasm!
Volunteer docents are needed 7 days a week--8 am-4 pm weekdays, 9 am-5
pm Saturdays, and 1-5 pm Sundays. Gay Brantley coordinates the weekday
volunteers, and Ann Smith coordinates the weekend volunteers, with the
help of other FoBB members.
To volunteer as a docent (host) at the Refuge Visitors' Center, you
may call Gay (environmental education specialist) at 318-387-1114, or
call Ann (FoBB President) at (318) 342-1144 or (318) 503-5124. Email
addresses are gay_brantley@fws.gov and asmith@ulm.edu. Both can direct you as to volunteer opportunities and schedules. Most people volunteer for 4-hour time slots.
Also, Charlie Carmichael (2004 volunteer of the year, Northeast LA
Refuge Complex) does outdoor work at Black Bayou Lake almost every day,
and he can tell you what sorts of jobs there are to be done there. He
can also be reached at 318-387-1114 (leave a message).
