Volunteers are the lifeblood
of Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge. If you have some time that you
can give, please consider volunteering. We'll provide the training--you
provide the enthusiasm! Volunteer docents are needed 7 days a week--8 am-4
pm weekdays, 9 am-5 pm Saturdays, and 1-5 pm Sundays. Gay Brantley
coordinates the weekday volunteers, and Ann Smith coordinates the weekend
volunteers.

To volunteer as a docent (host) at the Refuge Visitor Center, you may call
Gay (environmental education specialist) at 318-387-1114, or call Ann (FoBB
Vice-President) at (318) 342-1144 or (318) 503-5125. Email addresses are
gay_brantley@fws.gov and asmith@ulm.edu. Both can direct you as to volunteer
opportunities and schedules. Most people volunteer for 4-hour time slots.
Charlie Carmichael (2004 volunteer of the year, Northeast LA Refuge Complex)
does outdoor work at Black Bayou Lake almost every day, and he can tell you
what sorts of jobs there are to be done there. He can also be reached at
318-387-1114 (leave a message).
