
The Friends of Black Bayou, in cooperation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, celebrates the climax of National Wildlife Refuge Week in October each year, with the annual Fall Celebration at the Refuge.
The public is enthusiastically invited to attend. Everything's FREE!
This year, activities include:
* Free Fish Fry, Corn Dogs, Jambalaya, and
Drinks
* Desserts (including Black Bayou Lake Mud Pie)
* Alligator Snapping Turtle Release
* Drawing for Angler’s Kayak
* Turning of the Blue Goose (migration marker)
* Display of Winning Photo Contest Pictures
* Live Animal Exhibits (gators, snakes, turtles,
etc.)
* Guided Bird Walks and Nature Trail Walks
* “Let’s Go Outside” Packs, buttons & tattoos
* Activities by such groups as Masur Museum,
Biedenharn Museum, ULM Museum of Natural History, Children’s Museum,
Louisiana Purchase Zoo, Louisiana Wildlife Federation, Monroe City
Schools, and More
* Birdhouse Building with Home Depot
* Tree IDs/Leaf Rubbings
* Free Canoeing
* Face Painting
* And more great fun for the whole family!
Learn about conserving our natural resources and participate in fun activities for all ages.
Since the birds begin migrating southward about this time of year, the children are enlisted to help TURN the big goose towards the south, indicating that's the way the birds are flying. What a wonderful way for children to learn about migration!
