Since 1997

Welcome to the website of the Friends of Black Bayou, Inc., an award-winning, non-profit, community support organization that supports the protection and enhancement of Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge located in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana.

FoBB came into existence in August 1997 with a core group of dedicated supporters who cared about the Refuge and “dreamed big.” In a very short time, members began to see their dreams taking shape.

Educational opportunities were and are a top priority of the organization. A century-old planter’s home has been renovated and is used as the Visitors’ Center. A wildlife observation pier, an observation deck, nature trails, a wetlands art project, and a photo blind have been built. Curriculum materials have been developed and a Conservation Learning Center was opened in October 2005.

Working alongside the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, members of FoBB continue to work to see their dreams come true.
