Friends of Black Bayou Annual Fall Celebration 

2024 Fall Celebration will be held from 10 am to 1 pm on October 19, 2024

Kids of all ages love to come to the Fall Celebration out at Black Bayou Lake NWR each October, when there's a bit of a nip in the air and the wildlife is beginning to transition to the next season. There are FUN activities and booths set up near the Visitor Center for our special humans to enjoy, and there are lots of activities, sponsored by Friends of Black Bayou and various other community groups. 

The Fall Celebration is usually held in conjunction with National Wildlife Refuge Week.

 You can expect to enjoy activities such as these, and more!
  • pollinator activities,
  • birdhouse building,
  • turning the Blue Goose migration marker,
  • free canoeing,
  • native animal displays,
  • hands-on arts activities,
  • face-painting,
  • temporary tattoos,
  • science fun,
  • refuge photography contest,
  • GPS game,
  • and so much more!

Black Bayou Lake Mud Pie Recipe>

PictureFall celebration includes delicious homemade "Mud Pies"!
Did you enjoy that delicious "mud pie" out at the refuge on Saturday?  Well, volunteers made those, and YOU can, too, right in your own kitchen!  Here is the wonderful recipe that was donated by Friends of Black Bayou Lake NWR member, Nell Odom a long, long time ago!

Recipe:

BLACK BAYOU LAKE FUDGE PIE
by Nell Odom, Friends of Black Bayou
4 Tbsp. Cocoa
1 Stick butter (do not substitute oleo)
2 Eggs
1 Cup Sugar
1/2 Cup Flour
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 partially baked pie shell
Bake pie shell for approximately 10 minutes before adding pie mixture.
Melt cocoa and butter. Mix eggs, sugar & flour. Add chocolate mixture and mix well. Add
vanilla. Bake at 350 for 22 minutes.
Variations:
+Fudge Nut Pie -add 1/2-1 cup chopped pecans.or walnuts
+Coconut Fudge Pie-add 1/2 cup coconut
+Almond Joy Fudge Pie-add 1/2 cup coconut and chopped almonds
+Peanut butter Fudge Pie-add 1 cup peanut butter chips
